Imagine navigating the manufactured discordant chaos of work and life under the prevailing neoliberal hegemony when your natural functionality dictates a largely self-paced, gradual approach over time. Or being unable to drive in a culture where doing so is virtually imperative to participating in society.

Allan White, author of his recent memoir Disrupted Pathways: A Dyspraxic Odyssey, has lived this reality his entire life.

Born with dyspraxia, Allan was not diagnosed with it until well into adulthood after being diagnosed, possibly incorrectly, with ADHD years earlier. Dyspraxia is a neuropsychological impairment characterized by impaired coordination, speech, and executive function.

By sheer chance, Mr. White became aware of different learning disabilities in late adolescence, quickly realizing that he was likely neurodivergent and undiagnosed. While many barriers initially prevented him from obtaining an official diagnosis until years later, his newfound self-awareness marked the beginning of a journey of self-discovery and finding an optimal life niche relative to his impairments.

Early in his journey, Allan discovered a passion for anthropology and primitive technologies, particularly in the art of crafting stone tools known as “flintknapping.” This self-directed pursuit provided Allan with focus and a sense of self-empowerment, which later influenced his political radicalization as a neurodivergent individual after years of struggling to integrate into society.

Join him in his journey from misguided early adult attempts to withdraw from society to efforts to integrate, his subsequent radicalization as a neurodivergent person, and his eventual discovery of stability and peace through alternative means.

“Allan’s writing has taught me so much, not only about dyspraxia itself, but about perseverance, perspective, and the quiet power of showing up with truth and grace. His memoir, Disrupted Pathways: A Dyspraxic Odyssey, is a gift to this world and an important read for anyone looking to expand their understanding of neurodivergent experiences.”
