Based on a Comparison of a Sailor’s Letters to His Parent to the Classified Ship’s Log
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE / PRURGENT
Sonoma, California, April 1, 2022 — Author Dr. Warren I. Jaycox and White Cottage Publishing Company Principal Tom Mack jointly announced today the publication of Dr. Jaycox’s latest book Not to Reason Why, the story of a sailor named Buddy aboard the U.S.S. W.A.S.P. (CV-18) during World War II. This story is told through letters he wrote to his parents. The book faithfully reproduces each of his letters accompanied by a transcription on the next page. Following each letter is the then classified ship’s log of the events going on with the U.S.S. WASP. This allows the reader to compare what the sailor wrote to his family with then events concerning the ship he was on.
The author added another feature to this book when he published numerous pictures to further explain to readers what Buddy experienced as a 19-year-old sailor aboard the U.S.S. WASP along with posters of movies the sailors watch aboard the ship. The book also spends time explaining what Buddy’s parents and siblings experienced on the “home front” including food rationing, gasoline rationing, the 35 mile per hour national speed limit, “Victory Gardens,” and other operations to engender support for the War on the home front.
This pairing of letters to actual events is a unique element of this book. Rarely, are people exposed to the feelings of the sailors on a ship in the middle of the Pacific Theater of Operations in World War II and then exposed to the actual events going on aboard the ship. The comparison of the letter with the events going on board the ship demonstrates the heavy censorship going on in World War II. This unique perspective makes Not to Reason Why, a World War II book that belongs in every proud American’s library.
