Georgia's premier professional organization for CPAs elects new chair for 2021-22 fiscal year. Learn about upcoming initiatives. FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE / PRURGENT
Tom Harrison, CPA principal at Lanigan & Associates PC, of Thomasville, Ga., has been elected chair of The Georgia Society of Certified Public Accountants (GSCPA) Board of Directors for the 2021-22 fiscal year. Harrison was selected at the Society’s annual business meeting held virtually for GSCPA members. “After a year of extraordinary transformation in our personal and professional lives, accountants are more important than ever and are integral to America’s recovery,” says GSCPA CEO Boyd Search.
Diversity and inclusion initiatives put in place by past GSCPA chairs are something Harrison would like to continue to move forward this year. The Society recently received a grant from a Big 4 firm to help with those efforts. “I’d like to build on what past chairs have done and have our Diversity and Inclusion Committee determine how we can use those funds to make our profession more inclusive and diverse,” he says.
Harrison is excited to see GSCPA members in person again after over a year of virtual classes and events. He praises GSCPA’s ability to shift to online learning so quickly during the pandemic, saying, “The Society did a fantastic job pivoting to virtual operations. We were well-positioned with our technology investment to provide virtual services. We were ahead of the curve.”
Harrison’s involvement with GSCPA began on a local level when he joined a nearby chapter early in his career and soon became a chapter president, a chapter representative for the Leadership Council and a member of the Board of Directors. Harrison served as treasurer to both the Leadership Council and Board of Directors before becoming chair-elect. Harrison is also a member of The Group Insurance Trust Committee, Nominating, Investment, Bylaws and Budget Committees. Harrison holds a double major in finance and accounting from Florida State University. Harrison practices in Thomasville, where he, his wife, Holly, and their sons, Thomas and Alden, enjoy playing tennis and exploring the outdoors.
