“Christmas With Godiva,” tells an interesting story about a Havanese puppy that is being mischievous on Christmas eve. While his owners are asleep, Godiva gets a visit from Santa that told him he is on the naughty list. Godiva has to convince Santa to put him on the Nice list. This is where the challenge begins and Godiva has to try his best to avoid any mischief.

In the story, it is evident that Santa is of color because Anyeah Banks wanted to allow children to see that Santa can be of a different nationality too.
“Growing up as an African-American the children’s book I had never showcase characters that look like me,” Banks said.
African-American children never had characters that look like them in most of the popular children’s books and this is the perfect opportunity to challenge that archetype.
“In 1990, scholar Dr. Rudine Sims Bishop wrote that books are mirrors, reflecting our own lives at us, and that reading is, therefore, a means of self-affirmation” (Natalie Stechyson).
