Trinity Christian Academy (TCA) in Addison recently appointed Brian Gaffney as the new head baseball coach. Gaffney, who has more than 25 years of coaching experience, will take on the role of head baseball coach in the 2019/2020 school year. Prior to this, Gaffney served as TCA’s assistant baseball coach for a year. He succeeds former head and veteran baseball coach, Don English, who concludes a 37-year head-coaching career to take on the role of boy’s athletic director at TCA.
“We’re excited to have Brian join our team,” said English. “His experience and passion for coaching will enable him to positively impact the lives of our young athletes.”
Prior to joining TCA, Gaffney served as the head baseball coach at John Paul II (JPII) for over a decade. In this role, he took his team to the playoffs 11 of his 12 years coaching and was named District Coach of the Year five times. In addition to serving as the head baseball coach, he coached varsity football and coordinated the baseball, softball and tennis complexes at JPII.
Gaffney earned his bachelor’s degree in kinesiology from Sam Houston State University, where he played baseball throughout his education and joined his team earning the 1996 Southerland Conference Championship. A native North Texan, he grew up in Rockwall, where he played baseball and football in high school.
TCA’s athletic program includes 21 varsity-level sports (10 for boys and 11 for girls, including cheerleading and drill team), and athletes compete in the TAPPS 6A division. TCA has a long tradition of successful athletic programs and has a history of state championships in many sports. Numerous athletes in a variety of different sports have gone on to pursue athletics at the collegiate level, including many at the NCAA Division 1 level. |
