A Thai dog from Chon Buri named Coke has won first place in a worldwide pet calendar contest, earning him the coveted cover.
Walkin’ Pets by HandicappedPets.com, an e-commerce pet product company, hosts the annual calendar contest which features dogs using Walkin’ Wheels wheelchairs for mobility support. The contest helps spread awareness of how disabled pets are capable of living happy, active lives.
Michael Baines, known as “The Man that Rescues Dogs,” is Coke’s proud owner.
Coke, who was paralyzed after being hit by a motorcycle, received the most votes by popular vote on the company’s Facebook page out of a pool of 240 entries from 26 countries around the world. Michael Baines, originally from Sweden, has made his home in Thailand for the past 15 years. Years ago, he was drawn to helping street dogs find food; he has adopted several dogs he met along the way, in addition to Coke.
Michael’s love and compassion for dogs motivated him to start his own nonprofit dog shelter (The Man That Rescues Dogs: TRTMD), in collaboration with the local municipality, which helps hundreds of dogs every day.
