St. Petersburg-based startup Fitpeak has launched a beta release for fitness professionals across the United States. The web-based platform connects fitness enthusiasts with top trainers and coaches and provides one-click booking and payments so that people can spend more time moving and less time dealing with administrative hurdles. The beta, currently open to coaches, instructors, and professionals like nutritionists and yoga teachers, allows users to create profiles and begin promoting their services.
The goal? A healthier, more active population that feels empowered to work out on the fly. “The importance of making the world more active began with the fact that technology is becoming such a ubiquitous part of our lives, and it can be a major barrier to activity," says Dillon Auxier, the 28-year-old founder of Fitpeak. "We believe that we can leverage technology to encourage activity rather than prohibit it.”
According to the National Center for Health Statistics, only 21.7 percent of adults meet guidelines for muscle strengthening and aerobic activity. In an age where adults spend over 4 hours a day on their phones, it's more important than ever to encourage physical activity in real, actionable ways.
Fitpeak, pitched as "Airbnb meets the fitness world," will make it simple for anyone to book and pay for an appointment with a local trainer — even when they're on the road. By removing inconveniences like signing up for new gyms or multiple accounts, Fitpeak eliminates common excuses that keep people on the couch. Reviews, in-depth profiles, photos and categories make it easy for people to find a trainer, coach, or even nutritionist they can connect with.
