Mary’s Center Launches Stories into Books, Memoirs From its Senior Members

A Journey of Unique and Inspiring Life Experiences in 15 Stories

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE / PRURGENT

Mary’s Center announced the launch of “Stories into Books”, a compilation of memoirs in two books from 15 members of the Bernice Fonteneau Senior Wellness Center, a recreational senior center of the DC Office on Aging managed by Mary’s Center since 2011.

The event, which will take place on Thursday, July 19th at 10 am the Petworth Library in Northwest DC, will be a reflection on the importance of memoirs in history, and a tribute to the seniors’ legacy to their families, the Center, and the District of Columbia.

“It is astonishing how often we marvel at the accomplishments of total strangers such as athletes, movie stars, and political figures, but we are seldom introduced to the achievements of those who reside right within our own families,’ says Clarence ‘Buddy’ Moore, one of the two facilitators of the project and author of one of the memoirs.

“Working with the seniors and bringing back to life their memories has been one of the most fulfilling experiences in my career as social worker,” says Erin Segal who volunteers at the senior center and facilitated one of the book projects.

The 15 authors worked for over four months to compile their most interesting and inspiring experiences, which they will share during the launch of the books, which are now available at www.thickpress.com and www.lulu.com
