Preeminent hair restoration surgeon and researcher Dr. Marco Barusco – Founder and Chief Medical Officer of Tempus Hair Restoration – has been named a Clinical Partner of HairClone. Based in Manchester, England, HairClone is a new biotechnological company dedicated to bringing hair cloning into routine clinical practice to make hair loss a thing of the past.
HairClone intends to develop a unique business strategy involving clinicians, scientists and patients co-funding and co-developing a private patient treatment using a combination of scientific and medical innovation.
Known internationally for his natural artistic ability, experience and innovative nature, Dr. Barusco has been a driving force in the hair transplant industry. During his 12-year tenure as a key hair transplant surgeon and trainer at Medical Hair Restoration (MHR), he was heavily involved in its accredited Post Graduate Fellowship program. Dr. Barusco has held numerous leadership positions on the American Board of Hair Restoration Surgery (ABHRS), including Past-president of the Board of Directors in 2017.
Academically, he serves as Assistant Professor of Surgery for the University of Central Florida’s College of Medicine. Dr. Barusco is also a member of various committees in the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery (ISHRS) and a respected author of hair restoration textbooks. His accomplishments include numerous publications, research projects and speaking engagements around the world regarding advanced hair restoration techniques. Tempus Hair Restoration has 14 clinics throughout Florida.
His new role as HairClone Clinical Partner is a logical progression for Dr. Barusco’s line of research. Hair cloning has been proposed for many years as the ultimate treatment for hair loss. Hair transplantation successfully moves hairs from one region of the scalp to balding regions, but is not able to increase the total number of hairs available. Hair cloning would, in effect, disassemble a few hair follicles, multiply these cells in the laboratory and then reintroduce them into the scalp to both rejuvenate miniaturizing hair follicles and induce brand-new hairs.
Recent scientific breakthroughs in the field indicate how human follicle cell culture multiplication systems could be successfully developed. Dr. Barusco and HairClone’s other accomplished Clinical Partners located worldwide will carry out clinical research in order to optimize the various systems required to make hair cloning a successful therapy.
