Zero Station, Portland Maine in collaboration with Leonidesarts Gallery New York, New York, East End Studio Gallery Houston, Texas with the collaboration of Derek Jackson Artist Portland, Maine present “MYTHIC/POETIC" by Ricardo Osmondo Francis a solo exhibition
Ricardo Osmondo Francis’ mixed media paintings and drawings are best described as lush surrealistic narratives that often depict the social constructs of moral/racial identities, the complexity's of human existence, economics, and life through the lense of a 21st Century urban contemporary artists vision of an urban pastorial realism seen through multi media, still life, and abstract compositions. Ideas inspired by classical art, various multi-ethnic contemporary visions, antiquity, modernity, and present day advertisement imagery that the current paintings present in a torrent of color and imagery culled from every possible corner of our visual culture. Thick with an air of political and spiritual symbolism; Mr. Francis works project a variegated questioning aura of ambiguity social, sexual, and social identity in compositions saturated with allegory.
In addition to exhibiting works in galleries and museums both domestically and internationally; artist Ricardo Osmondo Francis in his youth co-founded BLAFTCO 1990-1997, Houston, Texas an alternative art group of 7 young artists whose names make up the group. Apanamae Productions New York 2000-2006 showcased his art exhibits and performance art projects. He served as Curator-in-Residence at the Hudson Pride Connections Center, Jersey City, New Jersey 2011-2013 and the Brooklyn Community Pride Center, 2012-2015. Currently he is Curator and Gallery Director of Leonidesarts Gallery New York an artist run non-profit visual arts organization whose mission is to present contemporary art exhibitions and public art projects that reflects a variety of distinct artistic styles, disciplines, themes, and cultural experiences.
“MYTHIC/POETIC” will run through mid-December 2016. Opening reception is free and open to the public.
