Bedford Fundraising Group, a local charity which fundraises for Dreamflight, Afiniti’s chosen charity,held its annual awards evening on Saturday 1 September to recognise and reward all of its fundraisers and share some of the special stories that make the Dreamflight charity such a worthy cause. The charity focuses on providing seriously ill children with a holiday of a lifetime.
At the Awards, fundraisers were praised for their efforts in activities such as parachute jumps, darts marathon and a unique challenge ‘the great escape’ requiring teams to dress up and follow instructions to get home while visiting a number of secret destinations – with no money! Afiniti were one of the official sponsors of the evening and Lorna Gibbons, Marketing and Design Manager at Afiniti, was delighted to present an award to the team that raised the most money overall.
This year Afiniti has chosen Dreamflight as our company charity and I am one of the lucky ones to be involved in helping to raise money for this very worthy children’s charity. This charity focuses on providing seriously ill children with a holiday of a lifetime. Once a year, 192 deserving children from all over the UK, accompanied by a team of medical carers, are taken on a holiday of a lifetime to Florida to spend 10 magical days of fun and excitement.
On Saturday, I attended the Dreamflight Bedford Fundraisers Group Annual Awards ceremony, representing Afiniti as one of the official sponsors.
It was very much an evening of inspiring stories. Jenny Hillam, who organised the event, heads up this dedicated fundraising group to support Dreamflight and is inspirational in her pure commitment, drive and passion to support this charity. She has a wonderful team of volunteers who help her and it is important to get support from companies like Afiniti who can help boost funds.
Seeing the fundraisers accepting their various awards in recognition of their achievements was inspiring hearing their stories of how some overcame fears or pushed themselves to raise as much money as possible. I had the pleasure of meeting two sets of parents whose children benefited from this wonderful experience.
It was emotional hearing their stories and very much brought to life this deserving charity and the difference it can make to both the children and their parents.
In October I’ll be taking on my own challenge with our MD Corrina to compete in a Half Marathon, Run to the Beat. We’ll be doing our best to raise as much money as possible.
