– Since being founded in 1992 Projects Abroad has provided more than 28,000 volunteers with placements in exciting locations worldwide.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE / PRURGENT
It has more than 20 years of experience in giving volunteers the opportunity to learn invaluable new skills, find out about the cultures and places they visit and carry out fulfilling work that will help change the lives of others or care for the environment.
Today Projects Abroad provides volunteering projects in 30 different countries all over the world, offering volunteers more choice than ever before.
South Africa is a popular volunteer choice and there are many different projects available here.
Working in the townships of Cape Town (Lavender Hill, Grassy Park and Imizamo Yethu) or in the smaller outlying towns of the Western Cape volunteers can live and work in mixed-race communities and start to understand the complexities of South Africa's past and present while helping to give the younger generation the tools they need for the future.
Opportunities are available in teaching, care projects or on sports projects for underprivileged youngsters. There are also opportunities to gain practical work experience in South Africa in fields such as journalism, business or human rights.
Those interested in conservation and the environment will be based just on the Botswana side of the Limpopo river border with South Africa. Here they will help to collect scientific data and create species lists, wrap trees, maintain water holes and build bird hides while learning new skills such as animal tracking and GPS mapping.
The Pacific island archipelago of Fiji is literally a world apart from South Africa but volunteers can still make a world of difference here amidst the perfect white sand beaches and crystal clear waters.
Projects Abroad offers opportunities for volunteers in Fiji to care for disadvantaged children in kindergartens, teach English in local schools and rehabilitate wounded animals with time free to pack up your hammock and go off in search of paradise.
Not all destinations popular with volunteers are also popular with mainstream tourists. The landlocked South American country of Bolivia is filled with Andean peaks and rainforests but it sees little of the tourist traffic received by neighbouring Peru.
Intrepid volunteers to Bolivia can study the local Quechua language or take a Spanish language course while working in fields as diverse as care work , equine therapy , journalism, teaching and health work (including dentistry, medicine, nursing, occupational therapy and physiotherapy).
With more than 30 countries hosting projects available to volunteers with Projects Abroad there has never been more choice of places to go whether you wish to work in popular tourist destinations or countries off the tourist map.
