Local cancer support organization announces official launching with 5k Walk/Run event.

WALDORF, MARYLAND – September 7, 2012 – StayStrongWithCancer, Inc. will host its Inaugural 5k Walk/Run event on Saturday, September 29th. Registration will begin at 8 am and step off will be at 9 am on the day of the event. The 5k Walk/Run will have a scenic route which will begin at Regency Furniture Stadium, continue down Piney Church Road to Route 488 and return to the Start/Finish line at Regency Furniture Stadium. This event will be the first of many fundraisers to raise funds for the StayStrongWithCancer™ organization.
“We are thrilled to finally be launching our organization. With so many people being touched by cancer, we realized a local cancer support organization was very much needed. StayStrongWithCancer™ will offer online forums and resources, member activities and events, support groups for patients and family members, and transportation and financial assistance programs,” says Kim Cooksey, Co-Founder and Vice Chairman. “We want everyone to know that when cancer enters your life, there’s someone here to help.”
Registration for the event is now open; adults are $25 and kids (12 and under) are $15; the first 100 participants will receive a free T-shirt. Sponsorship opportunities are also available and will receive special recognition before, during, and after the event. Current sponsors include BalanceLogic, Beacon Printing, Southern Maryland Blue Crabs, Bowie Produce Company, Thirty-One Gifts by Holly, and Jayaraman Medical Associates. All proceeds will be used to help launch the initiatives of StayStrongWithCancer™, an organization created to raise funds to provide education and support programs to individuals with cancer, as well as their families. In addition, an innovative and powerful website will be offered as a central resource for patients, survivors, families, caregivers, doctors, and supporters with a focus on the Southern Maryland region.
