Ulsan, Korea – September 27, 2012 – Songwon Industrial Co., Ltd. will discontinue the manufacture of Tin Agrochemicals at its Ulsan (Korea) facility from January 1, 2013 onwards. The products affected will be raw materials used in the production of Organotin Agrochemicals that prevent disease of mites on apples, pears, grapes and oranges, vegetables and other crops.
K.T. Jeong, the Songwon Business Manager for PVC Stabilizers and Tin Intermediates, stated: ”The demand for Fenbutan and Cytin in pesticides has been in decline for the past several years, driven primarily by the overall awareness of the informed consumer in the use of chemicals in food production. Regulatory standards have also strengthened, with the result that a significant increase in capital will be required to bring the current operations up to compliance. Songwon continues to be a leader in environmental stewardship and meeting health and safety regulations. The combination of these factors are the driving force behind Songwon’s decision to cease production of Organotin Agrochemicals.“
The discontinuation of Songcat™ FENBUTAN & Songcat™ CYTIN will not however, in any way, affect Songwon’s production of other tin based products. Songwon will continue to produce and ship Tin Agrochemicals until December 31, 2012 for all existing open orders.
