The top professional oyster shuckers on the planet – including six-time champion Luis “The Mexican Menace” Iglesias – compete in the world compete in the Oyster Frenzy’s Professional Shucking Championships, Sat., Sept. 29, at the Grand Central Oyster Bar.

The world’s greatest oyster shuckers will converge at the Grand Central Oyster Bar on Saturday, September 29, to compete for the $3,000 Grand Prize in the Professional Shucking Championships at the 10th Annual Grand Central Oyster Frenzy. The championships are co-sponsored by Blue Island Shellfish Farms and the Oyster Bar, and two dozen of the finest shuckers are expected to compete.
The first round of the title tilt begins at 1:00 P.M. and will feature six-time champ Luis “The Mexican Menace” Iglesias from Corona, Queens, defending his title on his Oyster Bar home turf. Second place is worth $1,000, and third place $500. In addition, the “Slurp Off” eating competition, and the Beer Shucking Championships sponsored by Bluepoint Brewery are both open to the public. Oyster maven John Bil will give a seminar entitled “The ABC’s of Oysters.”
