WHAT: Eastern Long Island residents will unite in a movement to reclaim the future for millions at the Alzheimer’s Association’s Walk to End Alzheimer’s. The Walk will be preceded by an opening ceremony and a keynote speech by Sean Walter, Supervisor, Town of Riverhead.

The 5-mile (3.1-kilometer) Walk to End Alzheimer’s will start at Grangebel Park. From there, participants will walk across Peconic Avenue, over the bridge and towards Long Island Aquarium & Exhibition Center (formerly Atlantis Marine World). At the conclusion of the Walk, they will enjoy a clambake and the opportunity to visit the aquarium.

Walk to End Alzheimer’s participants will be able to learn more about Alzheimer’s disease, advocacy opportunities, clinical trial enrollment, and support programs and services.



WHEN: Saturday, August 25, 2012

8:30 a.m. — Registration/Continental Breakfast

10:00 a.m. — Opening Ceremony/Keynote Speech by Supervisor Walter

11:00 a.m. — Walk begins



WHERE: START: Grangebel Park
Route 25 and Peconic Avenue
Riverhead, NY

END: Long Island Aquarium & Exhibition Center

Riverhead, NY


DIRECTIONS: From the LIE: To Exit 72. Stay onto exit to Route 25 toward Riverhead. Take West Main Street (Route 25) into downtown Riverhead. After 3.2 miles, turn right onto Peconic Avenue. Grangebel Park is on the right-hand side.

From Sunrise Highway: Exit 61 for County Road 51/Couty Road 55 toward East Moriches/Riverhead/Manorville/Eastport. Keep left at the fork to continue toward CR 51, then right at the next fork and merge onto CR 51. Turn right onto Route 24. At the traffic circle, take the fourth exit onto Peconic Avenue. Grangebel Park will be on your left (behind Chase Bank).
