FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE / PRURGENT
Montauk, NY — Star Island Yacht Club has announced that the 20th Annual Mako/Thresher Mania Tournament will take place August 3-4. Fishing will be held both days from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. The Captain’s Meeting will be held August 2.
This is one tournament that the avid shark fisherman does not want to miss. With over $135,000 in cash, plus custom trophies and other prizes up for grabs last year, 40 private and charter boats along with over 240 anglers competed for top honors in this two-day event last year. Ron Hughes aboard Captain Bob Rochetta’s “Rainbow” brought in the heaviest mako at 174 lbs. Jason Walter took second with a 123-lb. mako aboard Capt. Paul Stern’s “Tuna Tangler.” The third-place catch went to Chris Gramlich, who caught a 116-lb. mako on Capt. Chris Broadent’s “Northstar.” In the Thresher category, the winning catch was made by John DeLuca aboard Capt. Charlie Mazen’s “Alyssa Ann,” weighing in at 247 lbs.
The entry fee is $600 per boat. For those sports fishermen who would like to compete but do not own a boat, the Star Island Yacht Club Charter Boat fishing fleet is available for hire for one or both days.
Dockage is on a first-come, first-serve basis. Transient rates for this tournament are $5.50 per foot plus $30.00 for utilities (electric, water and cable) per day, payable in advance.
