Louisville clear braces provider Dr. Paul Tran, discusses five reasons to consider braces at any age.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
LOUISVILLE, KENTUCKY-Orthodontists often hear five common reasons why patients seek orthodontic treatment.
Dr. Paul Tran, a Louisville clear braces provider, discusses these reasons and why braces are beneficial at any age.
"Regardless of whether you are a child or a grown-up, the orthodontic field has come a long way," says Tran, an orthodontic specialist. "From conventional metal braces to tooth-colored braces and invisible braces such as Invisalign, many options are out there."
Following are five reasons people often seek orthodontic treatment:
As time passes, a person becomes aware of the image they portray. A person can have a perfect smile, increased self-confidence and the motivation to succeed by undergoing orthodontic treatment.
Aesthetically pleasing choices
Clear or tooth colored brackets and Invisalign are becoming more popular with teens and adults because they are more aesthetically pleasing than their metal counterparts.
Teeth shifting after previous braces were removed
Patients often find their teeth begin to shift out of alignment when they discontinue retainer use after the first year or two, Tran says.
"A lot of orthodontists today recommend wearing retainers for life," he says. "Wearing a retainer several times a week will protect your investment. If you feel pressure on your teeth when your retainers are in, wear them nightly until the pressure goes away and then wear them every few days."
Brushing and flossing are more difficult when teeth are improperly aligned.
"There is a great deal of research to support the notion that it is easier to keep aligned teeth clean since there aren't as many areas where food can get stuck," Tran says.
The ability to breathe easier
The roof of the mouth changes over time and breathing problems may occur if teeth are not in alignment. Such problems can be avoided if teeth are straight and properly aligned.
"No matter how old you are, you shouldn't let age discourage you from correcting your smile," Tran says. "I've never heard any patients tell me they're sorry they improved their smile."
