Blanket America is currently promoting a new addition to its selection of CHOOSE HAITI products, soon to launch officially online. Available at http://www.BlanketAmerica.com, the necklaces and bracelets in the collection are handcrafted by Haitian artisans, and provide an expansion to Blanket America’s original CHOOSE HAITI collection, which debuted last year. Sales of the handmade goods go towards benefiting survivors of the devastating 2010 Haiti earthquake.

Though Blanket America typically sells textiles including blankets and throws, the CHOOSE HAITI program offers shoppers a wider array of products. The retailer currently gives consumers the ability to purchase Beads of Hope bracelets, Beads of Hope necklaces, or CHOOSE HAITI bracelets. All three of the items are made from recycled materials by Haitian craftsmen. Consumers who purchase one of these products are both creating jobs today as well as directly supporting earthquake relief efforts.
CHOOSE HAITI products are created from bottles brought to tent camp residents. The bottles are taken from Port-Au-Prince, cleaned and sanitized, and then sent to artisans in the tent camps. From there, the bottles are reshaped into beads and bands suitable for jewelry making. The glass pieces are covered in papier-mache to create a final look that is both unique and stylish.
The American blanket company will continue to expand its inventory of CHOOSE HAITI products and has already sent out designs for a selection of new items, which include cosmetic bags, dresses, scarves, laptop sleeves, and more jewelry pieces. In addition, a new handful of products, like the CHOOSE HAITI t-shirt, will be used to promote awareness of the cause.
