(May 14, 2012)-- Saturday, June 9th Tony Luke's Sicklerville will celebrate it's grand opening noon to 5 p.m. A $500 eating competition called the Tony Luke's Challenge will take place. Tony Luke Jr., Bill “El Wingador” Simmons, Skip Denenberg, Edgardo Cintron, and the Fancy Brigade Mummers will be in attendance.
In place of a ribbon cutting ceremony, Tony Luke’s will feature a 20 foot cheesesteak cutting ceremony to kick off the grand opening celebration.
The Tony Luke's Challenge requires competitors to eat a cheesesteak, chicken cheesesteak, roast pork sandwich, chicken cutlet, and a trio of Pazotti's. The competitor who completes the challenge fastest will win a $500 prize.
Tony Luke Jr. is an actor, musician, entertainer, restauranteur and the face behind Tony Luke’s. A Philadelphia native, Luke brings his infectious energy and optimism with him where ever he goes. The areas best known competitive eater and 5-time Wing Bowl champion Bill “El Wingador” Simmons will co-host the Tony Luke’s Sicklerville grand opening and be the official judge of the Sicklerville Challenge.
Grammy award winning singer/songwriter Skip Denenberg will be performing along with Grammy nominated percussionist Edgardo Cintron of the Latin pop orchestra, The Cintron Band.
The Fancy Brigade Mummers will be performing alongside Tony Luke Jr. to his song, “The Mummers Strut.” Since 1901, Mummery has been a Philadelphia tradition. Performances include actors in elaborate costumes, music and dance.
