Expanding neighborhood counseling practice offers relational psychotherapy in the heart of Seattle’s Ballard district

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE / PRURGENT

Seattle, WA (prurgent) May 9, 2012 - Folktown Counseling has added a second counselor to its staff in an effort to expand services to residents of Ballard and surrounding neighborhoods. Kristin Hill, LMHCA, will join Folktown founder Robert Deeble, LMHC, at Folktown's offices at 1900 NW Dock Place in historic Old Ballard. Like Deeble, Hill practices relational psychology, a method of psychotherapy that emerged in the 1980s.

"We're excited to welcome Kristin because she's a gifted therapist, and because it enables us to be available to more people," said Deeble. "We believe the therapy we practice here is both practical and transformational—a great fit for this neighborhood. We're passionate about it and want to make it available to as many people as we can."

Relational psychology evolved from several modern forms of psychoanalysis. It involves assessing the source of a client's interpersonal conflicts to ascertain the core issues they struggle with. Therapists often will use the interactions between themselves and their clients as a lens through which to view the client's dynamics with others, which are often imprinted early on as a result of formative relationships with parents and others. The approach can help heal many common therapeutic issues, including anxiety, depression, relational conflict and even personality disorders.

Says Folktown's Hill, whose background is in relational and family systems, "I find it interesting to integrate my previous training with [relational psychology's] added emphasis on the experience between my clients and I. Focusing on the relationship in the room at a given moment, can be a powerful learning experience for my clients—and for me."

Hill and Deeble are both accepting new clients and are available by appointment.

They can be reached at 206 274-5889.

About Folktown Counseling

Located amid the blue collar bars and quirky restaurants, Folktown Counseling( http://www.folktowncounseling.com/ ) fits right in with the old charm of Ballard's historic buildings and mid century aesthetics. Folktown has been housed upstairs in the historic Hansen building, once a bar itself, since 2005.

Folktown's name was inspired by its surroundings, says Deeble. "We wanted a name that described the community we worked in. Given Ballard's Greenwich-Village-like feel and artistic leanings, the name just seemed to fit."

"People often come to see us for a particular concern" says Deeble, "but we hope that that the counseling experience brings about a sense of positive growth, not merely a reduction in negative symptoms. That's what interpersonal approach at the heart of relational psychology is intended to achieve."
