On March 26, Larry J. McCord, Founding Partner, Larry McCord and Associates LLC, received the Community Service Award at SCOPE’s 11th Annual School District Awards Dinner at Villa Lombardi’s in Holbrook.

On March 26, Larry J. McCord, Founding Partner, Larry McCord and Associates LLC, received the Community Service Award at SCOPE’s 11th Annual School District Awards Dinner at Villa Lombardi’s in Holbrook. He was honored for his work as a parent, an educator and an advocate for students in the Wyandanch community in helping to provide them with more and better educational opportunities.
Mr. McCord concentrates his practice in education law, dealing with students’ and teachers’ rights and parental rights. He also represents parents and students with school suspensions, staff members at superintendent (3214) hearings and clients at Child Support Enforcement (CSE) and Persons in Need of Supervision (PINS) cases. He is also a certified school teacher and served as a personnel committee chairman of a local school district, school board president, district attendance teacher and hearing officer. The firm also provides scholarships to graduating Wyandanch High School students.
In addition, Mr. McCord is the Founding President of the Wyandanch High School Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) and has been an Executive Board Member for the past 10 years. He helps fund a PTO-sponsored tutoring program to help students study and pass the English Regents exam.
He also teaches a Business Law course at Dowling College in a bridge program in which Wyandanch High School students take a college-level course for a nominal fee. He has provided prizes for the high school’s mock trial competition.
During the Vietnam War, Mr. McCord was seriously wounded. For his service, he received four Purple Hearts and two Bronze Stars for Bravery from President Lyndon B. Johnson while he was hospitalized.
Mr. McCord was also coach of the Wyandanch Police Athletic League football team and, in 1972, led them to a national division championship. Shortly thereafter, he became Director of the league.
SCOPE is a not-for-profit educational organization permanently chartered by the New York State Board of Regents to provide services to school districts. Founded in 1964 by school superintendents, it is governed by a board of directors of school superintendents and college representatives and serves as a regional School Study Council and School Board Institute.
