For the second year in a row, alumni from Sussex Technical High School, Sussex Central High School, and Cape Henlopen High School will go head-to-head in a basketball battle.
GEORGETOWN, DE – The gymnasium at Sussex Central High School in Georgetown will be standing room only, as Sussex County basketball’s elite takes their A-Game to the hoop in the Markishia Wise Charity Basketball Game. Wise, a Sussex Central High School basketball legend and the school’s all-time leading female scorer, was diagnosed with Leukemia in 2010. Supporters are joining her team in an effort to take a shot at treating and beating cancer.
For the second year in a row, alumni from Sussex Technical High School, Sussex Central High School, and Cape Henlopen High School will go head-to-head in a basketball battle. All for one name: Markishia Wise, #44, whose jersey was retired in grand ceremony this past February.
Wise’s competitive spirit and message of hope is so inspirational that her former teammates and competitors jumped at the chance to play for “Team Kishia.” Sussex Technical High School players include Rudy Thomas, Cody White, Kevin Maull, Roshawn Johnson, Brandon Hudson, Justin Hardy, Chris Hopkins, and Jacques Bowe. Cape Henlopen High School: Kyle White, Ray Jackson, Derek Savage, Jordan Thomas, Kevin Brittingham, Mike Pritchett, Mackey Jones, Trent Batson, Shemik Thompson, Mariah Gibbs, Aishia Holloman, Katie Delcampo, Cecilia Morris,Kim Smith, Shanika Evans, Sabre Hood, Toni Jones, and Taylor Harris. Players representing Sussex Central High School include Markishia Wise, Shavaughn Floyd, Sara Lawrence, Sommer Chorman, Canesha Gibbs, Kellie Whaley, Tishon Dennis, Shanette White, Keesha Tice, Jill Young, and Montoya Palmer.
Game day begins with a boys match-up, with teams coached by Terrance Davis and Dwight Tingle, Sussex Central High School graduates and former Cape Henlopen basketball coaches. The girls match-up, coached by Claudette Satchell and Phyllis Gibbs, will follow shortly after.
The second annual basketball game will be played on Saturday, April 7 at Sussex Central High School, 26026 Patriots Way, Georgetown, DE 19947. Doors open at 3:00 p.m. Tip-off for Game #1 is at 4:00 p.m.
The Markishia Wise Charity Basketball Game operates under Shechinah Empowerment, an outreach organization created in accordance with the wishes of the supporters of Markishia Wise. Based on Wise’s basketball success and her strong belief in education and physical fitness, the charity’s vision is to bring awareness to Leukemia and to increase funds for treatment. Already a member of an elite group, Wise’s diagnosis places her on the roster with the world’s most athletic cancer survivors: Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Lance Armstrong, Dorothy Hamill, Martina Navratilova, and Peggy Fleming.
