Gerontology is the study of the aging process. It involves studying the social, biological, and psychological impacts of aging, and should not be confused with geriatrics, which is a branch of medicine that deals with diseases related to old age.
Gerontology is a fairly new field, but extremely important in training healthcare professionals who understand the problems that are specific to old age.
