One day knock-out championship to be held at Al Shabab club in Dubai. Inaugural championship to focus on encouraging women to participate in sports

Dubai, December 15, 2011.The Dubai Sports Council (DSC) in association with the UAE Women’s Sports Committee has today announced the first Women’s Table Tennis championship. The one day inaugural tournament will be held at the esteemed Al Shabab Club, on December 24, 2011.
The event is organized in line with the initiatives of DSC to improve the UAE women’s way of life and encourage them to take part in various sporting activities both locally and internationally. The knockout playoffs will also lay emphasis on developing a comprehensive sports environment for women in UAE and draw participation of women in the tournament from various clubs and UAE government entities.
“Our vision at Dubai Sports Council is to instill a sports culture in the UAE youth. To achieve this objective the Dubai Sports Council organizes various sporting activities for youth. The council has also developed world class sporting facilities providing the resources required to achieve this end. This Women’s Table Tennis Championship focuses on paving the way for more sporting events and championships for women.” Said Dr. Ahmed Al Sharif, Secretary General, Dubai Sports Council.
“The Women Sports Committee not only focuses on empowering women but also developing and improving their sporting caliber and cadre. The Championship is geared towards cheering women to participate in a national competition. We expect to stir women into passionate participation in sporting activities and to make this as year on year event.” Said Ms. Laila Suhail, Vice President, UAE Women’s Sports Committee and DSF Board Member.
The one day Table Tennis event is expected to witness a triumphant session where all participants will take home various awards and participation certificates. The winners will also be awarded trophies. Registration for the championship is open for all age groups at the venue and will close on December 10, 2011.
Al Shabab Club Dubai is a choice venue for world class sports events. The 53 year old sports club has hosted innumerable basketball, football and volleyball events.
Dubai Sports Council
