Pasadena, CA, October 15, 2010 – Latest data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics shows that jobs in the trucking industry fell after six months of growth.
The total number of truckers and other employees of freight companies fell by one percent on a month-to-month basis. The trucking industry saw some growth in February which continued till August. The temporary surge added a little over six percent to the workforce.
Another index has increased concerns about a slowing economic recovery and its impact on the trucking industry. The Pulse of Commerce Index measures freight movement by studying diesel consumption patterns. The latest report states that diesel fuel consumption declined for a second straight month in September. The study is produced jointly by Ceridian and UCLA Anderson School of Management.
