A veteran of trucking regulations, John Hill, formerly Administrator of the FMCSA, joins SleepSafe Drivers inc.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE / PRURGENT
SleepSafe Driver Inc announced yesterday that the former administrator of the FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration), John Hill, has joined the company as a senior advisor in the area of regulatory affairs.
Hill has more than 20 years of experience in commercial vehicle regulations and enforcement, and was confirmed as the Administrator of the FMCSA in 2006. A SleepSafe Driver news release said, ““Hill’s understanding and knowledge of commercial vehicle safety and regulatory policy is extensive.”
“Some of the best research work I observed in my leadership role at FMCSA was self-initiated by the regulated industry“, said Hill, “and that’s what I’m observing is happening with sleep apnea and trucking today.” Indeed, SleepSafe Driver is conducting a year-long study with a “Top Ten” trucking company. According to SleepSafe Driver, almost 30% of truck drivers suffer from sleep apnea.
“Everyone who has sleep apnea and does not properly treat their condition suffers from daytime sleepiness, but not everyone drives a 20 Ton truck down the highway,” comments Nashville sleep apnea dentist, Dr. Don Lowrance, “Sleep apnea is a major cause of accidents where the driver falls asleep at the wheel. For truck drivers that spend all day or all night at the wheel, this is a big risk."
SleepSafe Drivers offers in-cab testing and monitoring of sleep apnea patients. You can take an online sleep apnea screening test on Dr. Lowrance’s website: http://www.nashvillesleepandtmj.com/epworth-sleepiness-scale.html
