Behavioral Directions, LLC an autism consulting company in Herndon, Virginia announces several upcoming events for the community related to autism and handling difficult behaviors in children. Dr. Jane Barbin, a Licensed Clinical Psychologist and Board Certified Behavior Analyst-Doctoral (BCBA-D), set the mission for Behavioral Directions, LLC to promote best-practice in the local area and beyond through direct work with families and community partners. Again this year they participated in the 2009 Autism Speaks Walk NOW for Autism in Washington, DC where they talked directly with parents and other service providers on the necessity of using evidence-based treatment procedures, namely Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) in working with children with autism spectrum and behavior disorders.

Christine Crowell, MA, BCBA, a consultant with Behavioral Directions, LLC will hold a seminar on “Handling Difficult Behaviors in Children” on November 4, 2009 covering functional behavioral assessment and selection of appropriate Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs). Her invited address will be held at a speech therapy group in Sterling VA.

Dr. Barbin will provide a community lecture at McLean Bible Church on November 16, 2009 to help parents manage behaviors such as tantrums, aggression, and non-cooperation, which may be seen in toddlers and older children. The focus will be on managing these opportunities for behavior change in a positive and effective way, while building relationships. More information on attending and a complete list of services can be found at www.behavioraldirections.com or by calling (703) 855-4032.

Behavioral Directions, LLC staff will also be available on November 18, 2009 at the Arlington Schools Healthcare Professionals Share Fair.
