FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE / PRURGENT

SGS Pakistan organized a technical session on High Temperature Hydrogen Attack (HTHA) in Karachi, Pakistan. Companies were educated on different advanced inspection techniques and services available to them within the region located in Pakistan.

To support owners of industrial facilities, SGS Pakistan, in cooperation with SGS Netherlands, conducted a seminar on Hot Hydrogen Attack. Hot Hydrogen Attack (HHA) is a form of degradation brought about by hydrogen reacting with carbon which in turn can cause cracks and loss of strength in steel. The presence of hydrogen in industrial plants is a potential source of damage, which can have catastrophic results. Therefore, it is crucial to precisely and adequately monitor HHA.

The seminar aimed to provide industrial facility owners a platform to better understand the process of HHA and the most efficient advanced Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) techniques to detect it.

The seminar, which gained great interest, was presented by NDT specialist Mr. Norbert Trimborn from SGS Netherlands, as well as Honorable Director of Operations Mr. Abdul Razzak Lakhani and Operations Manager Mr. Muhammad Aqeel, both from SGS Pakistan. Attendees were taught about the formation of HHA in steel and welds and its destructive effects on industrial plants.

The seminar especially focused on Advanced Ultrasonic Inspection methods like Time of Flight Diffraction (TOFD), Automated Backscatter and Velocity Ratio Measurements. By combining these three advanced NDT techniques, SGS Industrial Services has developed a specific procedure and approach to sufficiently identify and monitor HHA.

SGS Industrial Services, the world’s leading inspection, verification, testing and certification company, has the knowledge, expertise and experience to perform extensive NDT inspections around the world through a comprehensive international network.
