Company Donates Industry-Leading Static Analysis Software and Expands Licensing Program

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE / PRURGENT

San Francisco – Coverity®, the software integrity company, today announced an expansion of its academic research program. The Coverity Software Integrity Academic Program is designed to help universities advance the study of software integrity, which includes using static analysis to eliminate problems affecting software quality, security and performance.

"Using Coverity Prevent has been great with helping my students learn the practical benefits that static analysis can bring to software development," said Jonathan Aldrich, associate professor at Carnegie Mellon University. "We look forward to continued collaboration with Coverity and further use of Coverity Prevent in our curricula and research program for the school of computer science at Carnegie Mellon University."

Researchers that participate in the program will be able to scan software projects for defects using Coverity Prevent. This will allow researchers to expedite their work by reducing the time they spend searching for and fixing software defects. Teachers will also be able to use Coverity Prevent to evaluate student projects, and students will be able to use the latest technology to learn efficient programming skills.

The Coverity Software Integrity Academic Program reflects the company's deep roots in academia and its commitment to innovation. Coverity's co-founders at Stanford University's Computer Systems Laboratory in Palo Alto, California developed the foundational technology of Coverity's software analysis system between 1999 and 2002.

"Coverity is proud to expand our contribution towards software research and education at the world's leading universities," said Andy Chou, Coverity co-founder and chief scientist. "The Coverity Software Integrity Academic Program provides universities open access to precision software analysis capabilities that will accelerate innovation and enable the next generation of computer science students and researchers to learn how to build high integrity software."

Institutions interested in applying to the program must be accredited, degree-granting academic institutions located in North America, Western Europe or Japan, with curricula and/or research projects involving source code analysis or development.
