So you've decided to lose weight in 2009 - it's so easy to say, but not so easy to do. I'm going to share my Top 5 Tips to follow that will provide you with the best chance for successful and long-term weight loss in 2009.
Tip 1 Check your Commitment levels.
Making the decision to lose weight is the easy part, but today's decision can easily become tomorrows broken promise. Try instead to discover your personal 'why-to' - a real deep-down emotional reason. You're going to need strong reasons to remind yourself of when the going gets tough.
Tip 2 Don't kid yourself that it's going to be easy.
Being overweight is a habit. Breaking it won't be easy, but the good news is that it will be worth it. Research has proven that it takes 21 days to form a new habit, and a minimum of 21 days to undo a bad one. The reality is that you don't lose a bad habit, you replace it with it a better more positive one.
Tip 3 Break your goal down into 'bite-sized' pieces.
Think about how long it's taken to gain your weight. Depending on how overweight you are, it's probably taken years of gradual weight gain to arrive at your current weight. Take the long-term view and importantly, set short-term goals along the way. You're not going to arrive at your ideal weight overnight, in the same way you didn't gain it overnight, so establish some milestones along the way and pre-plan some rewards for successfully achieving each short-term target. Celebrate each small achievement and you'll remain motivated to reach the next.
Tip 4 Find a proven support system.
There's a well-known saying that 'a problem shared is a problem halved', and there are many proven weight loss programs with support systems available both online and offline. The challenge is finding one that works for you. A good place to start is by asking your friends or co-workers - people that you know. With 70%+ of the Western world population now officially overweight, it's not hard to find someone you know who may be able to recommend something that's worked for them. Ideally you need a mentor who will provide one-on-one support, and who will act as a personal coach. Someone you’ll like, get on well with and who will be strict enough to help keep you focused and committed.
Tip 5 Choose a healthy solution.
It's easy to make hasty decisions and go for the speed option over the healthy option. Don't do it, as more often than not you'll regret it. You must put your health first and choose a healthy route. Losing weight healthily is proven to be the best way to benefit from long-term results and the most beneficial to your long-term health. Ideally find a weight loss program that includes natural supplements and still allows you to eat your favourite foods
