You can ask "Ask Lilly Badilly All About the World" and you’ll learn great things about geography. Smart Poodle Publishing has launched a cool new New Geography Program for Children. Smart Poodle is the publisher of The Travel Adventures of Lilly P. Badilly: Costa Rica.
"We created Ask Lilly to get kids more interested in Geography," Debbie Glade, a former travel writer and author of Lilly Badilly, said.
This program came about when the staff of Smart Poodle visited some states and brought with them a Reading, Writing and Geography Program. They also brought large maps to let the children engage in an interactive geography Q&A.
“Though they are eager to play the game, students are often unable to locate states and large cities on the USA map and answer basic questions about their own state. I believe this lack of knowledge is due to the fact that we do not offer enough geography education in our schools,” Glade retorted.
It has been found out that in a state like Florida, school teachers are pressured to perform on standardized tests and the primary skills of writing and reading, overlooking some important subject matters such as geography. Hence, to boost children’s interest on what could otherwise be a boring academic subject, Smart Poodle Publishing came up with this creative initiative.
"Learning should be fun. And since Lilly is silly, has a funny voice and is dressed in a colorful costume, kids are entertained by her posing the geography questions,” quipped Glade.
This is Smart Poodle’s latest venture, and on the book’s site, children can ask the main character a US or world geography question. Any child who asks will be addressed by the squeaky voiced, funny costumed Lilly Badilly who will pose the question, which Glade will then answer directly in a fun short video. The book’s site also contains a database for questions and answers.
