Charlie Engle and Marshall Ulrich will cover 3,109 miles in 45 days to inspire people to live healthy
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE / PRURGENT
Alexandria, VA (September 12, 2008) – To increase awareness of childhood obesity and youth fitness, MISSION Product Partner Charlie Engle and ultra-marathoner Marshall Ulrich, will run across America from San Francisco to New York … in 45 days! That’s 69.8 miles a day, which would be a new world record.
The coast-to-coast journey begins September 13, 2008, from the steps of City Hall in San Francisco and will end on or before October 27 at the Times Square Champs Store in New York City. The challenge comes after Charlie’s documented run across the Sahara Desert to help raise awareness and funds for water-related programs in Africa. Running The Sahara was shot by Academy Award-winning documentarian James Moll, and will be released by NEHST Studios in the fall.
Charlie will be accompanied in this run across America by ultra-marathoner Marshall Ulrich of Idaho Springs, CO, and the two runners' journey will serve as the subject for a new documentary, Running America. During the course of the run, a film crew from NEHST Studios will follow along to capture their interactions with people who serve a common purpose of combating childhood obesity and promoting youth fitness.
A number of local United Ways along the route will organize events and volunteers to run with Charlie and Marshall in their region. People can follow along with Charlie and Marshall virtually by going to www.LiveUnited.org/runningamerica.
Charlie is also a founding athlete partner of MISSION Product, which creates innovative skincare solutions that help protect, preserve and replenish the skin before, during and after workouts.
